2021 MPSGA State Seniors Open-Amateur
Our flagship event each year is the 3-day 54-hole medal play championship that this year will be played on the A-Ga-Ming Sundance and Charlevoix CC courses in the Elk Rapids/Charlevoix area of the Northwest Lower Peninsula. The tournament is open to both members and non-members.
On page 4 of this book, is a description on the flight format and an application for the tournament. Please note the three championship flights include both gross and net competition. Players qualifying for more than one age division may select the division (and course length) where they prefer to compete. These flights are limited to players having handicaps of 20 or less.
In addition, players of all handicaps may prefer to select the “net only” flight. Our goal is to conduct a major state championship with age appropriate tees for gross competition -- while at the same time providing good net competition and comfortable course lengths for everyone.
The first and third rounds will be played on the A-Ga-Ming Sundance course. Sundance is a Jerry Matthews design that was ranked as the third best new course in the United States by Golf Digest in 2006. With views of Lake Michigan to the west and Torch Lake to the east, the course has wide playable fairways, sculpted greens, vast white sand bunkers, heather clad mounding and memorable vistas.
The middle round will be played at the Charlevoix Country Club. This is also a Jerry Matthews design with bent grass fairways & large undulating greens. Water dominates the landscape as many holes weave their way across a mix of open & tree lined holes with expansive surrounds of heather.
As in past years, your entry fee for the 3-day event includes golf, carts, range balls and several meals as well as gift certificates and skins for the winners.
If there is a sudden death playoff in any of the gross competitions
on the final day, it will start on the par 3, 7th hole of the Torch course.
